The SPHS IB Booster Board is seeking volunteers who are interested in learning more about Advocate editor duties and eventually taking on the role. When our daughter graduates at the end of this school year, we will retire as co-editors of The Advocate.
It is a rewarding experience for those who like to edit, like to be involved, like to communicate, and who appreciate the benefits of sharing information. There also is a fun creative element of selecting pictures or clip art to highlight each article. It would be good for an editor(s) to be organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines that they set for themselves. (more…)
Graduating SPHS IB seniors participate in two graduation events in May: The schoolwide graduation procession, and the IB Senior Celebration. The Senior Celebration is an extensively-planned banquet that honors the graduating seniors. It typically is held in the historic Coliseum and includes awards, skits, speeches, and music. Our faculty and staff and families and guests of the seniors attend. Past pictures of the decorated venue are included below.
The IB Senior Celebration Committee invites parents of Underclassmen, Juniors, and Seniors to join us in planning the Senior Celebration. We meet once per month to party plan the event. (more…)
The next IB Booster Board meeting will be: Monday Nov 5 at 6:30 pm.
Meetings usually are held monthly on the second Tuesday of the month in the IB Office. Due to schedule conflicts, the dates sometimes vary. Meeting dates appear on the calendar.
Find out about the breadth of IB boosters volunteer activities and how you could be involved. We are a friendly group! Joining a committee or helping with an activity are great ways to connect with other IB parents and the IB program and staff.
We hope you can join us at an IB Booster Board meeting!
Many of the photos that appear on The Advocate website were taken by Mrs. Lane and posted to a Twitter account. Thanks for her photo and tweeting efforts!
IB parents are AMAZING! A HUGE THANK YOU for all of the classroom supplies and teacher treats sent in this school year! Our teachers are so appreciative of your kindness and support!
We will continue collecting teacher treats and wish list items throughout the year.
A few teacher snack favorites are fruit, mixed nuts, low-carb snacks, protein bars, popcorn, pretzels and chips, bottled water, cans of soft drinks and any kind of candy, especially chocolate! Coffee K- cups for the Keurig machine in the IB office are also appreciated.
Other teacher wish list items right now are sheet protectors and office store gift cards to be used to purchase printer ink cartridges for classroom printers. (more…)
The Fifth Annual IB Booster Parent Social before the Homecoming game on September 14 was a big success. The social was a great way to mingle with established friends and acquaintances, as well as meet new parents. About 60 attendees noshed and visited well into half-time.
The September 6, 2018 Pinning Ceremony commemorated the transition of IB juniors from the pre-diploma program to their official entry into the IB Diploma Program at the start of their junior year. It took a lot of perseverance and dedication by the Class of 2020 to reach this important milestone. The ceremony also recognized new IB faculty and staff by awarding them with pins too.
Mrs. Johnson outlined the overall college application process for senior students and their parent at the August meeting in the cafeteria. Mrs. Lane provided words of support and encouragement to close the meeting.
IB Boosters Hospitality helps our teachers stock up with classroom essentials! We are in need of boxes of tissue, hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes. We are also collecting school supply items that our teachers and students go through quickly. Items such as pens, pencils, Sharpies, all sizes of post it notes, whiteboard markers, highlighters, etc.
Office store gift cards to purchase printer ink cartridges are also greatly appreciated as most of our teachers fund and maintain their own printers in their classrooms. (more…)
We invited new IB faculty and staff to introduce themselves to the SPHS IB community.

Also, on Friday August 17, the Hospitality Committee bought box lunches from Panera Bread to cap off the first week of school for the IB staff and faculty. If you are a member of the IB Boosters, this is a good example how your dues support our teachers and staff who work so hard for our students. (more…)
