The IB program and the marching band have participated in past parades but this year Curt Miller, VP of the IB Boosters, put out a call to have service clubs and other SPHS groups join the parade too. (more…)
The Green Devil Marching Band and Color Guard won numerous first place and other awards in four regional competitions this Fall season as described below.
This year the band was directed by Ms. Katie Aucremann, and the performance show was “1001 Nights,” the music of Scheherazade intended to evoke images from the Arabian Nights stories. You can enjoy their performance one more time (without the marching) at the band program’s Winter Concert in the school auditorium, Thursday December 13 at 7 p.m. (more…)
The SPHS Fall Play, Lauren Gunderson’s Silent Sky, will be performed Thursday through Saturday, November 8-10 at 7pm, Auditorium Theater. Silent Sky, much like the movie “Hidden Figures,” shines a light on the women who made critical, groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of space with both warmth and humor.
Tickets are $8 for students, $12 for adults, I.T.S. Honored. Disabled and preferred seating are available. (more…)
The SPHS a cappella group The Pitchforks, led by SPHS faculty member and sponsor David Lawhead, sing the National Anthem from the press box before home football games. They perform at many other events too.
Ms. Katie Aucremann, the new SPHS Director of Bands, wants students to
know that if their schedules don’t allow them to take Band class, they
are still eligible to participate in Wind Symphony. Wind Symphony
practice will start no later than November, and there will be on-campus
performances and off-campus performances at the MPA (Music Performance Assessment).
She also has announced the formation of a Jazz Band with expected practice start
no later than November.
Both bands will rehearse after school.

New Director to Lead SPHS Band Program
The new SPHS Band Director, Ms. Katie Aucremann, was recently introduced to the Band Booster Board by outgoing Band Director Cameron Vaadi. She is thrilled to be joining the St Pete High community and leading the Green Devil Bands. She spent the last six years working with the state champion marching band at Northside Christian School. A native of St. Petersburg, Ms. Aucremann studied at Wheaton College and Northwestern University. (more…)
The annual Band Banquet on May 4, 2018, commemorated this year’s marching band season and concert band performances. At the banquet, Mr. Cameron Vaadi, Director of Bands, said farewell to the SPHS band community. He is leaving SPHS and will start advanced graduate studies in French Horn performance at the University of Florida next Fall.
On May 10, 2018, Mr. Vaadi served as conductor one last time for the SPHS Wind Symphony at the annual Spring Concert. Mr. Vaadi provided farewell comments in the program (see below), and after the performance, band students and families enjoyed a dessert reception in the courtyard. (more…)

Congratulations to the students who performed in the SPHS Fall play, The Children’s Hour, November 9 – 11, 2017 in the Auditorium.
Seven of the 16 roles were performed by the following IB students: Freshmen Katie Sebring and Logan Wilson, sophomore Isabella Myers, and juniors Dominika Dzurny, Mason Weaver, Jadyn Gonzales, and David Eaton Jr.
The Green Devil Marching Band, directed by Cameron Vaadi, finished a successful season in November, and several musicians received individual awards in February. (more…)
