August 2018: Choosing a Locker for Next Year!

LockerALL students who want to use a school locker must purchase an SPHS lock.  You cannot use a lock from middle school or one purchased from a store.

Locks are for sale in the IB Office for $5 (CASH ONLY PLEASE BRING EXACT CHANGE) and can be re-used each year.

Lock sales and locker assignments will take place in the IB Office (Room 157) from 10am-1pm on the following dates:

  • Seniors (Class of 2019) Monday, August 6 (noon to 2:30 pm – New time period!)
  • Juniors (Class of 2020) Tuesday, August7 (10am-1pm)
  • Sophomores (Class of 2021) Wednesday, August 8 (10am-1pm)
  • Freshman (Class of 2022) Thursday, August 9 on this date freshman can select* a locker on 2nd floor (10am-1pm)

May 12 & 19: Incoming Freshmen Boot Camp

Boot CampIB Boot Camp Description

This camp is designed to ensure, first and foremost, that incoming IB freshman have a solid mathematical foundation when they enter this rigorous program. The camp will also begin to introduce the incoming IB freshmen to one another. They will have the opportunity to begin forming friendships and a team spirit. National Merit Students Recognized

About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 PSAT Qualifying Test.  The nationwide pool of 16,000 Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

The National Merit Semifinalists from St. Pete High are Rylee Hickman and Thomas Joyce, both IB seniors. (more…)

Zach Tetreault Achieves Eagle Scout Rank

Zachary Tetreault

On October 9 2017 Zachary Tetreault earned the highest honor in scouting, the rank of Eagle Scout with Gold Palm distinction.  He is a senior in the IB Program.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate leadership and community service by planning, organizing and carrying out an Eagle project that benefits the community. Zachary also earned the Eagle Gold Palm for merit badges. (more…)

SPHS Marching Band and Individual Musicians Win Awards

Marching Band Leaders at East Lake Classic Competition (L-R) Justin Barlas*, Meara O’Connor*, Victoria Zamitalo*, Sierra Hinnant*, Clara Machado*, Zach Tetreault*, and Brandi Shugarts (*IB students)

The Green Devil Marching Band, directed by Cameron Vaadi, finished a successful season in November, and several musicians received individual awards in February. (more…)

IB Freshmen Won Media Award for “Dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide” Video

Beware! A Dihydrogen Monoxide molecule

Congratulations to IB Freshmen James Cadavos and Delaney Sirios-Morris. They were First Place Winners of the Florida Association for Media in Education 2017 Jim Harbin Award, presented in November 2017.

Robin Ladd Chosen as Lignell Outstanding Teacher

IB Cheerleaders appeared in Macy’s Parade and selected for All Star Football Classic

St. Pete High was represented in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade by three Varsity Cheerleaders, IB Seniors Kirby Hall, Brooke Gephart and Sarah Rieth.  They participated in the parade with “The Spirit of America”organization.

They also were selected to cheer at the Pinellas All Star Football Classic game on December 13, 2017.

National History Day Projects Recognized

Based on the 2017-2018 National History Day “Conflict and Compromise” theme, students across the nation researched subjects with a local, national, or world history impact.  St. Pete High IB sophomores participated in this competition as well as Victor Xie, the only freshman, and school and county awards are listed below. Students win County and National Scholastic Arts Awards

IB sophomore Vivienne Dumas, a student of 2D Art Teacher Brianne Gates, won a National Gold Scholastic Art Award for her drawing of Florida Girls .  The reception will be June 7 in New York City at Carnegie Hall!

In addition, the work of 12 SPHS students was accepted and received awards in this year’s county-level Scholastic Arts Show. (more…)

Model UN Delegates Receive Awards

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Pinellas County Schools Model United Nations Conference on Friday, March 16 at the St. Petersburg College Clearwater Campus.  Twenty-eight IB students in grades 9 to 11, participated.

Students represented countries as delegates in various committees with the purpose of solving global issues. Their day was spent presenting and debating their country’s position and working together to pass resolutions concerning their committee’s issue. (more…)

Track Athletes Bring Home Medals and Championships

Track Athletes Bring Home MedalsPinellas County public school athletes with the top 16 times/distances/heights were invited to participate in the Pinellas County Athletic Conference (PCAC) Track Championship on April 5, 2018. All Pinellas County public schools competed.

Many medals were won including four 1st place PCAC champions,  and a SPHS school track record was broken too.

Ansley Burtch’s Poster Selected for National Competition

Congratulations to Ansley Burtch, a sophomore in Mrs. Torres’ Spanish class.

Ansley submitted a drawing to the Annual Poster Competition of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), and her work was selected to represent the Florida Chapter in the National Poster Competition. (more…)
