For his IB CAS project, senior Nico Hernandez fundraised almost $900 to assist bedridden patients in the town of Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, affected by Hurricane Maria.

He made all purchases in Puerto Rico to assist the economy after the hurricane and worked with the Las Piedras Mayor’s Office to distribute them.  He, along with the Mayor’s wife and part of her staff, visited several patient homes and delivered the items purchased.

At the end of the event, the Mayor of Las Piedras presented Nico with a plaque in gratitude for his community service project.
