The National Honor Society (NHS) concept was created in 1921 at a convention of the National Association of Secondary School Principals to fulfill the need to recognize outstanding high school students. The purpose of NHS is to create enthusiasm for the principles of Scholarship, Character, Service, and Leadership.

The Sunshine Chapter of NHS at SPHS, established in 1935, is the oldest chapter in the state of Florida.  Mrs. Gianna Zengel is the Chapter Advisor.

A special thanks to those who gave their time so that the evening would be a success goes to Mrs. Gianna Zengel, Mrs. Darlene Lebo, Ms. Trish Grunz (lights/sound), Mr. Bruce Meacham, Mrs. Joan Simmons, and Mr. Rob Tarrou.
