The St. Petersburg High School Theatre Department presented the musical comedy Legally Blonde from March 28 to March 30. This hilarious seven-time Tony-nominated musical smash is based on the MGM Motion Picture “Legally Blonde” and novel by Amanda Howard, with Music and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. Legally Blonde follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. With memorable songs and dynamic dances, Legally Blonde features an original pop score.
Legally Blonde was directed by SPHS Theatre Director Trish Grunz with Music Direction by Stacie Steinke. Choreography was by Katie Gehringer and Tiffany Avey from A and G Dance Academy, and Technical Design was by Brad Brady.
With a cast of over 45 performers (with IB students in bold below), this show highlighted the vocal talents of seniors and juniors including award-winning vocalists. Talented sophomore Katie Sebring made her debut in the starring role as Elle. Seniors Seth Yeager as the quirky but kind Emmett and David Eaton Jr. as the charming but self-absorbed Warner really shone. Mason Weaver was perfectly devilish as law professor Callahan. Many talented upper and underclassman rounded out the cast, especially sophomore Nellie Rettig as Paulette, the funny and endearing owner of Hair Affair. Elizabeth Rau was wonderful as the snobby and savvy Vivienne and Jennifer Stroemich was pitch perfect as Brooke who kept the audience whipped into shape! Alec Pent and Leah Colon were dedicated Lighting and Sound Techs and Kat Ottaviani was the very busy Stage Manager.
