About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 PSAT Qualifying Test.  The nationwide pool of 16,000 Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

The National Merit Semifinalists from St. Pete High are Rylee Hickman and Thomas Joyce, both IB seniors.

Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program scored among the top 50,000 of the over 1.6 million students taking the 2016 PSAT.  They are among the 34,000 Commended Students nationwide and have shown exceptional academic promise.  The Commended Students from St. Pete High are IB seniors Kalen Hatten, Eric Le, Julia McKay, Eli Rust, and Rena Upadhyay.

National Hispanic Scholars recognition is based on the 2016 PSAT.  Approximately 5000 of the 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT earn this honor.  The National Hispanic Scholar from St. Pete High is Julia McKay.
