Senior Caoilfhinn McCormack organized “Words for Water,” an evening program in February that raised funds for charity: water, a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.  The event raised $260 to bring clean drinking water to two families.  (gallery below)

Caoilfhinn shared, “Charity: water is a non-profit organization based in New York with an international mindset. Their goal is to bring clean drinking water to the millions of people in the world who don’t have it. They install freshwater wells, construct rainwater catchments, and distribute sand filters to combat thirst everywhere, but mostly in Africa and rural China. They’re an extremely credible and transparent organization. They have high ratings on multiple ‘charity checker’ websites. Once they’ve used your donation, they send pictures of the community you’ve helped and geotag the location so you can see exactly where your money went.”

The program treated the audience to refreshments, and featured music and poetry performed by the several students (IB in bold):

  • Elizabeth Rau
  • Renee Veleva and Jake Bjurmark
