Angeline Friel was awarded first place in the 2018 Mayor’s Youth Showcase of Achievement held on May 17, 2018. This annual event highlights Pinellas County’s most talented students at the Mahaffey Theater with performances, accolades, visuals, and awards given for eight different categories.
Angeline was nominated for the Scholar-Athlete category by Soccer Coach Rui Farias. She is a goalkeeper on the girls varsity soccer team and a IB junior with a 4.12 weighted GPA. A knee injury kept Angeline out of the first half of the season, but her hard work in rehab and recovery put her back on the field in time for the District tournament.
In addition, Angeline was selected by the U.S. Olympic Development Program to represent its Region III team on an all-star squad to play in Germany. She played in three games against German national women’s teams. Angeline did not allow any goals against the German teams. On this trip, she toured several German cities and saw firsthand many of the history lessons she has learned in her IB classes.
Angeline is verbally committed to attend and play Division I soccer at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts after she graduates in 2019.
